History
Midatlantic Minerals Inc. was federally incorporated in Canada in October 1992 and has since been conducting business globally. As a privately held company controlled by senior management, Midatlantic, along with its sister companies, prides itself on maintaining a strong and focused approach to business.
The company specializes in a select range of products, allowing it to operate with exceptional efficiency, reliability, and adaptability to meet the specific needs of its customers. With over 75 years of combined management experience in the mineral industry, Midatlantic offers expertise in mineral extraction, processing, sales, distribution, marine transportation, dry bulk terminal operations, rail logistics, and trucking. Our commitment to delivering minerals tailored to client specifications is strengthened through exclusive supplier arrangements and/or direct involvement in supply. Midatlantic is deeply committed to its environmental responsibilities and takes proactive steps to promote fair trade practices, ensuring sustainability and ethical sourcing at every level.
Initially, Midatlantic concentrated on supplying construction-grade aggregates. Its strength lay in logistics, particularly in marine transportation, which enabled the company to work hand in hand with a few select quarries and by utilizing its strength in logistics, allowed them to penetrate markets that were predominately controlled by inland domestic quarries.
In the mid-1990s, the company shifted its focus to dolomite for use in the steel and glass industries. By once again, leveraging its logistical expertise, Midatlantic successfully entered markets previously dominated by inland domestic quarries.
In the late 1990s, Midatlantic expanded vertically by constructing a processing plant at the Port of Quebec. This facility enabled the company to beneficiate dolomite and introduce high-calcium limestone to its product line, further diversifying its offerings. During the same period, Midatlantic added low-iron dolomite to its portfolio, ideal for producing low-iron solar glass used in solar panels and high-white fillers.
In 2008, the company broadened its product mix by incorporating semi-transparent quartz, primarily for the engineered countertop industry. This development required retooling the Port of Quebec plant to produce high-quality quartz tailored to market demands. This product is marketed and sold by SANGILAK QUARTZ INC., a sister company of Midatlantic.
In 2024, following a request by the Port of Quebec to reclaim the land it was leasing from the Port, Midatlantic shuttered its processing plant after 25 years of operations and embarked on a new chapter. That same year, the company established new agreements with key suppliers of low-iron minerals (<80 ppm Fe2O3), including low-iron dolomite, low-iron limestone, and low-iron quartz. These partnerships establish Midatlantic as a top supplier in the growing North American solar panel market, driven by the global shift toward more environmentally friendly energy solutions.
In addition to these developments, Midatlantic continues to actively working on the development of its high-purity quartz deposit near Fermont, Quebec and, plans are in progress to construct a state-of-the-art milling plant for dolomite and limestone, tailored to the needs of a specific customer in the green steel industry.
Midatlantic Minerals Inc. has consistently prioritized meeting client needs through its expertise and the dedication of its loyal team. The company remains devoted to delivering quality products and exceptional customer service to both current and future clients, fostering continued growth and success in a dynamic market.
